STUDIES ON THE PERIVASCULAR SPACE (REPORT I) HISTOLOGICAL STUDIES ON THE PERIVASCULAR SPACE (PART 1)

Takeo YAMAMOTO

On the parietal region of anaesthetized rabbits, trepanation was operated and Carbon Ringer or colloidal mercury sulfide solution was allowed to enter the subarachinoid space, while hypertonic 40% glucose solution was slowly injected intravenously.
Four hours following the start of the procedure the rabbits were killed by bleeding, and the brains were removed. By the same method the human material was prepared with the normal brain.
Histological studies of this preparation lead to the following results.
1. The perivascular space communicates with the subarachinoid space.
2. The perivascular space with arteries and veins of 20-10 micro caliber is left between a single layer of the arachinoid, the inner wall and the pia mater, the outer wall.
3. The network of lattice fibers in the space is relatively rough.
4. His and Held's space and the space between the abventitia and the arachinoid are artificial spaces.
