CEREBRAL BLOOD FLOW IN BRAIN TUMOR CASES

Department of Surgery, Keio-University School of Medicine

The blood circulation of the brain patients with brain tumors is not much known.
We have studied the cerebral blood flow in 16 cases of brain tumors by the N2O-method of Kety-Schmidt.
From the results of these studies, we have noticed in general a moderate cerebral blood flow, an increase of cerebro-vascular resistance and a slight decrease of metabolic rate, but not always similar in different kinds and different locations of the tumors.
We have also noticed a marked improvement of these results after successful operation of the brain tumors.
Simultaneously, we also have studied these cases from the standpoint of cerebro-spinal pressure increase.
