EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON NERVOUS CORRELATION BETWEEN THE KIDNEY AND ADRENAL IN SHOCK

Surgical Department, KEIO University Medical School (Director: Prof. N. Shimada)

Masayoshi YOSHIE

The author studied on relationship between the kidney and adrenal in the initiation of shock by increase of arterial amino-nitrogen, decrease of CO2 and pH histopathological findings, after passage the lethal doses of electricity (8.000-10.000 Joules) through both groins of rabbit.
The results are as follows:
1) The autonomic blockade by stripping of the adventitia around the renal vessels generally prevents the production of shock.
2) Adrenectomy followed by adrenal transplantation seems to be preventable from the production of shock.
3) It seems to be prevented the production of shock by administration of large amount of adreno-cortical extract.
4) Administration of adreno-cortical extract after adrenectomy is effective to prevent the production of shock, when it is used before passage the electric current ; but it is ineffective after passage.
5) It is felt that the nervous correlation between the kidney and adrenal brings a accerated condition to induce shock, and administration of adrenal cortical extract brings an antagonistic condition by having an effect on the kidney.
