ENDOCRINOLOGICAL STUDIES ON THE MAMMARY TUMORS
It is obvious that the parenchyma of woman's breast is undoubtedly one of the most sensitive organs to the sexual hormones, and its functional and morphological state alters from time to time. These changes are well illustrated during puberty, pregnancy, following the menopause, and even in the normal menstrual cycle.
In this series sexual hormones were extracted from tissue of various tumors such as 25 cases of mastopathia, 6 cases of fibroadenoma, 2 cases of mastopathia combined with fibroadenoma and 7 cases of mammary cancer.
The sexual hormones in mammary tissue were extracted with alcohol, aceton and ether. which were measured by Beckman D-U Spectrophotometer in the ultraviolet range.
It was identified that the optical densities of the androgenic hormones were about 2500 Å and estrogen ichormesat abovt 2810Å.
But the extracted material mentioned above was found to contain various substances which were different from sexual hormones even in very little quantity.
In the mammary tumors it was impossible to observe sexual hormones of tumor tissues periodically as of the urine.
Results from the studies were as foIIows:
1 In mastopathia estrogenic hormones were moderately increased than androgenic hormones.
2) However, in mammary cancer estrogenic hormones could not be found.
3) In most of fibroadenomas estrogenic hormones were increased more than androgenic hormones.
4) In this respect it may be reasonable that androgenic hormones should be used in mastopathia.
