After injecting saturated saline solution into the exposed femoral artery of rabbits, injection of saline suspending staphylococci which is followed by a typical angitis, was performed.
Histological studies on the vascular changes were performed during 1-60 days after injection.
From results of the studies mentioned above, the following conclusions could be obtained.
1. Angitis caused by staphylococci is more similar to that of so-called thromboangitis obliterans than angitis caused by chemical injury or allergic reaction.
2. In this kind of angits, cellular infiltration primarily occur throughout vessel wall and then thrombi formation, proliferation of connective tissue and disappearance of infiltration develop gradually, which might show progress of Bürger's disease.
3. That is more similar to the thromboangitis obliterans (Bürger), than the endoarteritis obliterans (Winiwarter).
4. These changes of vessel wall mentioned above mainly originate from the intima.
