Clinic and Pathology of Symmetric Ulcer of the Stomach and the Duodenum
The authors collected 369 specimens of stomach which were resected at the Surgical Department of Medical Faculty of Tokyo University in recent 6 1/2 years, containing 221 cases of gastric ulcer, 36 cases of gastritis and 112 cases of duodenal ulcer and duodenitis. Seventy-one ot 221 cases of gastric ulcer are round or oval in sharp and most of them are situated on the lesser curvature, but ulcers in other 72 cases (34% of all gastric ulcer cases) are found symmetrically with the axis of lesser curvature, namely are kissing ulcers or linear ulcers. These ulcers show so many characteristics all in the clinic, roentgenology and pathology that they should be grouped in symmetric ulcer, which must take its place against so-called round ulcer. Their characteristics should be reported in near future as original paper of the members.
