Two kinds of arrhythmia are observed during ether anesthesia. One is sinus tachycardia which is thought to be caused by excitement of the sympathetic nerve, and the other is a series of change, i. e., bradycardia, nodal rhythm, A-V dissociation etc., which are thought to be caused by excitement of the parasympathetic nerve.
The former is mainly observed during the Ilnd Stage of anesthesia, and the latter is mainly observed during the Ist Plain of the IIIrd Stage.
Namely, In ether anesthesia there is a stage of excitement of the parasympathetic nerve which is thought to be caused by a central origin, during the Ist Plain of the Illre Stage. Therefore, various kinds of arrhythmia may appear by means of a conbination of the effect mentioned above and effects of ether on the heart or nerve, during the Ist Plain of the Illrd Stage.
