Effect of penicillin on the purulent osteomyelitis, which was produced by inoculation of staphylococcus aureus after cauterization of rabbit's bone marrow, was studied histologically and the results obtained are summarised af follows :
1. Generally speaking. the inflammatory process was accelerated and shortend under the influence of penicillin.
2. Appearance of histiocytes was inhibited, however, remarkable infiltration of lymphocytes and plasma cells was noticed and even lymph nodules with germ centers were formed in the terminal stage. It seems to be essential to the healing process of purulent inflammation.
3. Cocci turn gram-negative early, and they do not invade into surrounding bone marrow under the influence of penicillin.
