AN INQUIRY INTO THE THROMBOCYTES-INCREASING AND-DECREASING FUNCTION OF THE SPLEEN BY EXPERIMENTAL PERFUSION OF THE ORGAN

2nd Surgical Clinic, Kyushu University School of Medicine (Director: Prof. Tomoda).

Takahiko MASUDA

One and the same spleen was perfused with a substance which increases or decreases the number of thrombocytes and then the reticuloendothelial system of the spleen and liver was blockaded.
The results of the experiment were as follows:一
1) A perfusion experiment performed in two divisions, on one and the same removed spleen confirmed that the spleen acts in two mutually antagonistic ways on the thrombocytes of peripheral blood, either increasing or decreasig them.
2) It was further ascertained that this splenic function comes of the action of the reticuloendothelial system of the spleen and that the function is compensated for by the liver, i.e., by its reticuloendothelial system, after removal of the spleen.
