ON THE EFFECT OF DIRECT ELECTRIC CURRENT TO THE ANIMAL WHICH IS GIVEN BETWEEN BOTH THIGHS

Surgical Clinic, Keio University Medical School.

Fumihiko NAGAI

Up to this time comparing the affect of direct current and alternating current to the body, various results are reported. When electric current was given between both thighs avoiding to injure the fatal organs or high sensitive organs for electricity, untardy phenomena which affects to the body was criticized. The following results wrer obtained.
1. By the direct current over the certain amount of electrie energy (10,000 Joule at 100V, less at higher voltage) were given, occurrence of shock was noticeable as same as alternating current.
2. Threshold inducing shock was greater than that of alternating current until 100~300V, but at 600V it was less than alteronating current.
3. Regional injuries were more intense at direct current but parenchymatous lesion of each organ were slight.
4. Cause of death was attribute to the shock by the increase of blood amino-N, and decrease of blood pH and CO2 content, and by hystologic examination.
