A STUDY ON THE VOLUME OF OPERATION OF THORACOPLASTY FROM THE RESPIRATORY FUNCTION

II. Surgical Clinic, Tokyo University, School of Medicine

Shuichi HAYASHI

1) Discussing healthy Japanese pulmonary capacity, the author made the formula which can estimate the standard capacity by the heights.
2) Also, the author made the formula which can measure rib length from the chest X-ray film and it can help to determine the extension of thoracoplasty procedure.
3) Respiratory function after thoracoplasty is almost parallel (in the quantity) to the volume of operation.
4) It is safe to resect the first to fourth rib at the first stage thoracoplasty, but the resection from first to fifth rib is not safe.
5) The second stage thoracoplasty should be waited until three weeks after the first stage thoracoplasty. (author's abstract)
