INFLUENCE OF SPLENOTOXIN OF SPLENOPATHIC TOXICOSIS ON OXYGEN CONSUMPTION OF TISSUES

2nd Surgical Clinic Faculty of Medicine, Kyushu University (Director: Prof. M. Tomoda)

Hideo MATSUBAYASHI

In order to ascertain the influence of Splenotoxin of splenopathic toxicosis on the oxygen consumption of tissues, a certain quantity of 5% saline extract of the spleen obtained from a patient of splenopathic toxicosis was injected into the rabbit 20~50 times consecutively and the oxygen consumption of the liver, spleen, kidneys and diencephalon as well as the anaerobic glycolysis of the liver was examined. The results reached are summarized as follows:
The splenotoxin of the disease contains a factor for disturbance of the liver, and
(1) Tempouarily elevates the oxygen consumption of the liver but lowers it later on : lowers the anaerobic glycolysis of the liver at a relatively earlier stage ;
(2) Is reduced in activity to a certain extent on heating ;
(3) affects the oxygen consumption of the liver far more seriously than of the spleen, kidneys and diencephalon
