III. THE CLINICAL OBSERVATION.

2nd Surgical Department, Tokyo University.

Mikio MASAKI

The author has studied clinically on the behavior of the pleural absorption, instilled the indigocarmin solution into the pleural cavity, then observed its first appearance in the urine, and measured its excreted quantity.
1) The pneumothorax cavity showed better absorption than the empyema cavity.
2) The chronic empyema cavity showed considerable recovery of the absorption, compared with the intermediate stage of the empyema.
3) The empyema cavity which was accompained by much pleural secretion, showed the remarkable diminution of the absorption.
4) In propotion as intencity of the inflammation of the pleura, and severity of the general condition of the empyema patient, absorptiveness from the pleura is considered to be much disturbed.
