The author has made the experimental study with special consideration for comparison of the absorption from the pathologic pleural cavities to that from the pathologic abdominal cavity, and obtained the following results: --
1) The thoracic lymph flows out with the greatest quantity in case of the normal pleural cavity and decreases its quantity on normal peritoneum, pneumoperitoneum, and peritonitis-cavity in the orders.
2) The pigment is absorbed especially through the lymph way much more from the normal peritoneum than from the normal pleura, and it is excreted in the urine with more increasing amount in the former.
3) Measuring the quantity of the pigment in the thoracic lymph, the absorption from the pneumo-peritoneal cavity is found situating between the normal peritoneum and the peritonitis cavity, even though its excretion in the urine is observed the worst in pneumoperitoneum. This is considered to be some differences against the thoracic cavity, because the absorption is much better from the pneumothorax than from the normal pleura.
4) In case of the experimental acute peritonitis, the absorption of the pigment in the thoracic lymph is disturbed with increasing grade in propotion as intencity and process of the inflammation, and no any absorption is observed at the 24th hour after the onset of the peritonitis. The excretion of the pigment in the urine of the peritonitis dog is recognized in considerable amount which is situated between the normal peritoneal cavity and the pneumoperitoneal cavity. In regard with the duration of the peritonitis, the author has the significant observation that much more remarkable delay of appearance of the pigment in the thoracic lymph and in the urine is seen in the long-standing peritonitis than in the fresh one.
