I produced shock conditions in twenty seven dogs by hemorrhages (in 5 dogs), by burns (in 5 dogs), by total entero-gastrectomies (in 5 dogs,) and by wounds (in 2 dogs). The results are as follows.
1) As for free phenol in serums of 20 dogs, the maximum value is 14.50mg/dl, the minimum value 0.69 mg/dl, and the mean value 4.80 mg/dl before operation, and the maximum value 13.50 mg/dl, and the mean value 4.80 mg/dl before operation, and the maximum value 13.50 mg/dl, the minimum value 0.95 mg/dl, and the mean value 5.94 mg/dl in shock condition. I saw in 15 dogs the increased values of free phenol in shock condition.
2) As for total phenol in serums of 20 dogs, the maximum value is 18.50 mg/dl, the minimum value 0.96 mg/dl, and the mean value 7.59 mg/dl before operation, and the maximum value 19.75 mg/dl, the minimum value 1.00 mg/dl, and the mean value 7.76 mg/dl in shock condition. J saw in 14 dogs the increased values of total phenol in shock condition.
3) As for combining power of phenol in serums of 20 dogs, the maximum value is 53.8%, and the minimum value 5.0% before operation, and the maximum yalue 58.2% and the minimum value 0% in shock condition. I saw in 16 dogs the decreased values of combining power of phenol in shock condition.
4) As for indican in serums of 24 dogs, the maximum value is 0.267 mg/dl before operation, and 0.320 mg/dl in shock condition. I saw in 14 dogs the increased values of indican in shock condition.
5) As for free phenol in urine of 9 dogs, the maximum value is 76.9 mg/dl, the minimum value 24.0 mg/dl, and the mean value 44.7 mg/dl before operation, and the maximum value 183.7 mg/dl, the minimum value 15.0 mg/dl, and the mean value 72.2 mg/dl in shock condition. I saw in 6 dogs the increased values of free phenol in shock condition.
6) As for total phenol in urine of 9 dogs, the maximum value is 169.5 mg/dl, the minimum value 26.0 mg/dl, and the mean value 69.5 mg/dl before operation, and the maximum value 333.2 mg/dl, the minimum value 17.0 mg/dl, and the mean value 110.2 mg/dl in shock condition. I saw in 6 dogs the increased values of total phenol in shock condition.
7) As for combining power of phenol in urine of 9 dogs, the maximum value is 54.6%, and the minimum value 7.4% before opertion, and the maximum value 57.1% and the minimum value 0% in shock condition. I saw in 5 dogs the decreased values of combining power of phenol in shock condition.
8) As for indican in urine of 10 dogs, the maximum value is 14.90 mg/dl, the minimum value 4.67 mg/dl, and the mean value 10.75 mg/dl before operation, and the maximum value is 15.16 mg/dl, the minimum value 1.98 mg/dl, the mean value 10.45 mg/dl in shock condition. I saw in 4 dogs the increased values of indican in shock condition.
9) In 9 out of 10 dogs, quantity of urine during one hour decreased in shock condition. In these cases, total values of free and total phenol in urine during one hour decreased in shock condition.
10) Values of indol in serum and urine have been little. (author's abstract)
