EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON PIGMENT ABSORPTION IN THE PATHOLOGIC PLEURAL CAVITIES.
After introducing a definite amount of coloring matter into the pleural cavity of the experimental pneumothorax and empyema, as well as the normal pleura of the adult dog, the author has made some observations on the appearance of this coloring matter in the thoracic lymph and the urine, Thus he traced the behavior of the absorption through the pleural cavities and obtained the fallowing results:
1) The first appearance of the pigment in the thoracic lymph is recognized earlier and the quantity of absorption increases much more in the order of open-pneumothorax, normal pleura and closed pneumothorax.
2) The fiirst appearance in the urine is recognized ealier in the order of pneumothorax, and normal pleura. On the contary, the amount of excreted pigment in the urine decreases in case of the pneumothorax.
3) In case of the experimental acute empyema, it is observed that the absorptian of the pigment through the pleural cavity in the thoracic lymph is extremely decreased, however, its excretion in the urine reaches to the considerable amount.
As a result of the above mentioned, we could say that the absorption through the lymph-way is remarkably obstacled with association of the acute inflammation of the pleura.
