GUIDELINE FOR THE DETECTION OF SENTINEL LYMPHNODES USING RADIONUCLIDES
For the detection of sentinel lymph nodes, the technetium-99m (
99mTc) method is the most accurate and widely used.
99mTc has many advantages, such as a short half-life of 6 h. emission of 140 KeV γ-rays, etc. Radiation to medical personnel is minimal and this technique can be safely performed under the guidelines issued by the Japanese Society of Nuclear Medicine.
