CRUVEILHIER-BAUMGARTEN DISEASE
An unusual case of portal hypertension in a 65-year-old woman with encephalopathy is presented. The finding of a patent umbilical vein without ligamentum teres and normal liver biopsy qualify her for the diagnosis of Cruveilhier-Baumgarten disease. The splenoportography showes the hypoplastic intrahepatic portal vein. Splenectomy, resection of left gastric vein and paragastric-paraesophageal devascularization were performed. The patient has had no recurrence of encephalopathy. The importance of exitence of a patent umbilical vein without ligamentum teres and certification of hypoplastic intrahepatic portal vein are emphasized for diagnosis of Cruveilhier-Baumgarten disease.
