CHEMOTHERAPY ON HUMAN CANCER XENOGRAFTS IN NUDE MICE, WITH PARTICULAR REFERENCE TO CLINICAL RESPONSE IN DONOR PATIENT

Department of Oncologic Surgery, Research Institute for Microbial Diseases, Osaka University

Among 25 human malignant tumors serially heterotransplanted to nude mice from surgical materials in our clinic, 8 cancers (Stomach 3, Breast 3, Pancreas 1, Rectum 1) were selected for experimental chemotherapy. Responsiveness of 8 experimental chemotherapies with established anticancer agents on human cancer xenografts in nude mice was found to be parallel to the corresponding clinical response in each donor patient. The sensitivity to chemotherapeutic drugs was thought to be still preserved in human cancer xenografts even after passage in nude mice. As a trial to a predictive secondary screen, 8 cancer xenografts were also applied to chemotherapy with 3 new anticancer agents; UFT, simultaneous treatment of FT-207 with Uracil, CAM, a derivative of mycophenolate, and TA-077, a nitrosourea compound. Clinical effects of these agents to some kinds of cancers were expected from the screening results.
