Report on the annual meeting
SURGICAL MANAGEMENT OF CHRONIC PANCREATITIS.
-STUDY OF 38 CASES OF CHRONIC PANCREATITIS-
The results of surgery for chronic pancreatitis in thirty-eight patients were reviewed.
Direct operations on the pancreas are most successful in chronic pancreatitis. The surgical procedures were partial pancreatectomy, coudal pancreaticojejunostomy and longitudinal pancreaticojejunostomy. The longitudinal drainage operation is more effective than other procedures, and the improvement of abdominal pain and diarrhea is noted. Many symptoms, abdominal pain, diarrhea and diabetes, appear in severe chronic pancreatitis. Therefore, Therapy of chronic pancreatitis is necessary in the early (mild and moderate) stage. In two relapse cases of the 38, the drainage technique during the operation was not enough.
There was no case of relapse abdominal pain and diarrhea in the longitudinal drainage operation. But, most patients who complainted of slight abdominal pain after one year, are alcoholics. Therefore, we must observe the patients during their daily life.
