Purpose and Methods:
In order to observe the sole effect of the injected bacteria, an experiment in biliary infection were conducted upon SD strain germ-free rats. The factors of the experiment were grouped into five as given below;
Group 1. Eschrichia coli 109/0.1 ml saline
2. endotoxin 500 μg/0.1 ml saline
3. Bacteroides fragilis 107/0.1 ml saline
4. Escherichia coli 109 + Bacteroides fragilis 107/0.1 ml saline
5. saline 0.1 ml
The above were injected into obstructed bile duct.
Results:
1. Relating to group 1, 2 and 4, all the rats died in 4 to 6 hours, the survival time of which showed no significant difference. As for the remaining group 3 and 5, no single instance of death appeared in 48 hours.
2. In case of group 1, 2 and 4, the results of limulus test were all positive in systemic blood. The injected bacteria were also detected.
3. The rate of S-GOT and S-GPT increased significantly in case of group 1, 2 and 4, but group 3 as well as both almost the same figure. Similar results were appeared in the increase of uric acid rate.
4. By means of peroxidase-labeled antibody method which used anti-endotoxin rabbit IgG peroxidase, endotoxin was comfirmed in the tissues of liver and kidney.
