TREATMENT OF CONGENITAL ESOPHAGEAL ATRESIA ANESTHESIA AND RESPIRATORY CARE

During the past 7 years, 21 cases of congenital esophageal atresia was surgically treated. Survival rate was 47.6%, and there were only 15% survival rate in risk C of Waterston.
There were many associated pathologies, for example, premature 52.4% (11/21), congenital heart disease 42.9% (9/21), pulmonary complicatios 47.6% (10/21), and et al.
Hypoxia and cardiac arrest was often encountered during open chest procedures. Blood gas analysis was performed during operations to prevent hypoxia.
Respiratory care have improved a great deal with rapid development of mecanical devices and only 2 pulmonary infections directly accounted for a death (2/14). Long term mecanical ventilation over one month was performed in 5 cases and 3 of them was treated properly and successfully.
