Arteriosclerosis of carotid artery region were seen very few cases in this country compaired with the western countries. Author gets results on inquiry of questionnairs to 36 departments of surgery and 14 departments of neurosurgery as follows; 393 cases have been treated by cardiovascular surgeons and 329 cases have been treated by neurosurgeons. Author reports 40 surgically treated cases out of 55 clinical cases of extracranial cerebral arteriosclerosis, and explained 13 special cases with the subclavian steal syndrome about hemodynamic condition and operation techniques. Author emphasis that arteriosclerosis obliterance of extracranial brain arteries must be treated surgically during the clinical stage of repeated transient ischemic attack before the irreversible changes appear in brain. Once the diagnosis is established, gratifying surgical results can be expected.
