REHABILITATION AFTER PANCREATICODUODENECTOMY

The 1st Department of Surg., Tohoku Univ. School of Med.

Yoichi Saitoh

In our department the records of 136 patients with pancreaticoduodenectomy was reviewed. The resectability rate in periampullary carcinoma was 40.3%, The operative mortality rate in pancreaticoduodenectomy was 9.9% and five years survival rate was 16.7% in carcinoma of the head of the pancreas, 19.0% in the carcinoma of the bile duct and 38.5% in the carcinoma of the papilla Yater. Thirty eight of 41 (92.9%) who died from reccurence of carcinoma were dead within two years after operation. The rehabilitation in 35 cases of long survivor was 62.1% in Ia, 21.6% in lb, 8.1% in II, 5.4% in III and 2.1% in IV respectively. The greater part of the rehabilitation time after pancreaticoduodenectomy was from one year to one year and six months following surgery. The transition of the rehabilitation time was closely related to the patient's complants, but was rarely related to the result of test such as bood test, liver function test, and pancreatic exocrine and endocrine function test etc. at the time of follow up.
