STUDIES ON THE NEW SIMPLIFIED HEPATECTOMY
The author carried out experimental and clinical estimation of the simplified hepatectomy with the new Crushing Clamp.
In the experiments with dogs (the capsule of a dog's liver is more friable than that of a man) the healing process at the remnant stump of the liver took place histologically as follows: Two to three weeks later the stump was covered with a thick layer of connective tissues ; and one month later the cicatric layer was observed to be thinner and could not be distinguished from the capsule of the liver.
In two cases of autopsies, one month and four months postoperativley, the histological study revealed the complete cicatric repair of the remnant stump.
On the other hand the total number of hepatic resections done at our clinic by the end of December 1957 was 66 with only 4 operative deaths, and no deaths were due to the dismerit of the operative method itself.
In the light of these facts, it is my belief that this operative method is quite worthwhile in liver resection because of its safety and simplicity.
