STUDIES ON THE INTRA-ARTERIAL TRANSFUSION (ESPECIALLY ON COMPARISON WITH THE INTRA-VENAUS TRANSFUSION)
I investigated an intra-arterial transfusion as a method of blood transfusion during operation, and have obtained the following results.
1) intra-arterial tranfusion, 40% of irreversible shocks experimentally aroused by bleeding was successful, but by intravenous transfusion all cases died.
2) Intra-arterial transfusion was effective on reversible shock and repeated bleeding.
3) The mechanism of intra-arterial transfusion is found on adaptability to rapid change of intra-arterial pressure and application of the Pascal's principal. The fact, which is stated above, is proved by clinical cases and experimental cases, especially, arterial photography and microscopical observation of mesenteric blood flow.
4) From patho-physiological observation on 43 cases carried out intra-arterial transfusion during operation, it has been proved that this method is excellent.
5) Intra-arterial transfusion was more reasonable than intra-venous transfusion, because a balance of bleeding and transfusion was controlled by change of blood pressure during operation. Moreover. arterial transfusion gave a indistinct change of blood pressure and a little burden to the venous system with comparison of intravenous transfusion.
6) Serious complications have not been experienced.
