EFFECTS OF NITROMIN AND THEIR SPECIFICITY IN THE TREATMENT OF TUMORS
Recently, chemotherapy has been receiving increasing importance in the treatment of malignant tumors.
Since, however, the problem still remains r garding its effects, namely that certain chemotherapeutics have proved more effective for certain tumors but almost ineffective for others. The present study is concerned with investigations made on the effects of Nitromin as an anticarcinogenic agent based on clinical observations and animal experiments.
The results are as follows :
1. By application of radiomimetic alkylating agents and purin antagonists to 4 patients with lymphoma at the same time, purin antagonist was found to be effective in two cases with reticulosarcoma and alkylating agent for two cases with Hodgkin's disease.
2. When 5 mg/kg Nitromin was injected to the Yoshida-sarcoma, the ascites hepatoma, and the Takeda-sarcoma reespectively, it was proved to be most effective for the Yoshida-sarcoma and least for the Takeda-sarcoma based on the differences in value for cell counts and mitotic rate.
3. By application of 10 mg/kg Nitromin to rats with various tumors, it was proved to be most effective for the Yoshida-sarcoma when compared with other rats with ascites carcinoma regarding serum depolymerization, dephosphorylation and deamination activities.
4. By experiments in vitro, the intensity of acid solubility of extracted DNA Nitromin, was found to have a more powerful action for the Yoshida-sarcoma DNA than for the Takeda-sarcoma DNA.
5. In cases of rats with various ascites tumors, the Yoshida-sarcoma showed less resistance to Nitromin. In cases of rats with transplanted ascites tumor of the same kind, each tumor showed a specific resistance to Nitromin. These facts revealed that each tumor has its own specificity.
