EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES ON AN ACCELARATING ACTIVITY OF THE INTESTINAL TISSUE ON THE FIBRIN FORMATION
In order to analyse one aspect of the mechanism of postoperativ intraperitoneal adhesion, some substances, in various intestinal layers, which relate to the fibrin formation were examined. Adult mongrel dogs were used in this experiment. The results are as follows :
1) The peritoneum contains substances which inhibit the activities of thrombin and prothrombin, but it has no thromboplastic substance. Therefore, it effectively prevents the fibrin formation.
2) The subserosa contains a substance which accelerates the activity of thrombin, and it also has a thromboplastic substance. These substances predominate, in the activity, over that of the peritoneum. Therefore, it accelerates the fibrin formation.
3) The muscle layers contain a thromboplastic substance and also have a substance which inhibits-the activity of thrombin.
4) The activity of the thromboplastic substance in the intestinal tissue and other organs were compared.
