Part 2. PROTEIN METABOLISM

Masami NAKAMURA

In this article, the author examined also the problems on protein metabolism in secondary shock of dogs. Many facts were found as follows.
1) In secondary shock and in the malignant diseases, plasma proteins measured by the electrophoretic technic and Howes' technic, changed as follows.
Albumin decreased, but α globulin increased in that time. Immediately after the haemorshage, burn and plasmapheresis, β globulin increaed, γ globulin increased slightly in the end stadium of shock of haemorrhage, burn and operation.
2) Nitrogen balance after operation were positive by the high calorie and reasonable protein. In the 3 or 4 days after operation, the protein discharge was the greatest deal. Of cource the total loss of protein of a day is different individually and by operations, but the author found that there was a man who losed 30 gr of protein in a day. In general, such a man is rare, but when we supplied over 15 gr of nitrogen, it was observed that the nitrogen balance was near upon zero.
3) The author used human plasma, cattle plasma and Politamin solution as the substitute of blood. Cattle plasma was useful and harmless.
